Wellington Airport to see off Phoenix and Breakers with first international flight since July

Wellington Airport is excited to enable its first international flight since the trans-Tasman bubble was paused in July, a Qantas charter to see off the Phoenix and Breakers teams.
Matt Palliser, Head of Operations said Wellington Airport was very pleased to help the teams travel in readiness for their Australian fixtures.
“We are happy to help the teams get to Australia and it’s a pleasure to have the lights on in the international terminal, even for one flight.
“These flights are operating with pre-departure tests for all travellers, and Wellington Airport has its usual cleaning and Covid protection measures in place. These are expected to be features of international travel for some time and we are ready to further operationalise safe international travel as soon as conditions allow.
“It is also two years today since the first commercial A350 landed in Wellington with Singapore Airlines. We are looking forward to the day the A350 returns to Wellington, along with other international jet services.
“Our staff are excited to facilitate these flights and to see an international passenger jet on the runway. We’re hoping to see more kangaroo tails soon.
“We would also like to offer our best wishes to both teams as they embark on their tours.”
Wellington Airport’s last international flights were trans-Tasman bubble services between April and July. Prior to Covid-19, the airport operated more than 70 international return flights per week.
