People of the Airport - Bo Guan
Here at Wellington Airport we have a lot of amazing people working behind the scenes to make everything tick. To celebrate this, we've started a new, regular series on social media called "People of the Airport". First up is Bo Guan - thanks Bo for kicking this off!
Few people have worked at Wellington Airport in as many different roles as Bo. Since graduating from university she’s worked here for 18 years, and currently has not one but two jobs – working for Wellington Airport as Accounts Assistant, and for Air New Zealand as a Customer Service Assistant.
“With my two part-time jobs I really like the balance between them. Working for Wellington Airport I help process invoices and payroll in the corporate office, and then I rush downstairs and change into my Air New Zealand uniform.
“In that role I help passengers with things like check-in, boarding and bag tracing. So it’s a good balance of sitting down and being on your feet, and working with great people in both roles.”
In total Bo has spent 18 years at Wellington Airport since graduating from Victoria University with a Bachelor in Tourism Management.
“For most of that time I worked for a catering company supplying outlets here in the terminal. I worked my way up to duty manager and café manager before being made redundant.
“Then I started working for Air New Zealand and also got made redundant when Covid hit – twice in two years! So it’s great to have travellers and airlines back now.”
As if two jobs aren’t enough, Bo even has a third job – acting as an interpreter for patients at Wellington Hospital, using her skills gained from a Graduate Diploma in Arts and Interpreting.
Away from work, Bo has two daughters and enjoys playing the piano in the rare moments she has some spare time!
