About the role

We are looking for multiple physically active individuals, to join our committed, passionate and social Airport Fire team.

This opportunity will see you part of a close-knit Airport Fire Service crew who work in a rostered shift environment to ensure the safety of lives and property at Wellington Airport. As part of the greater Airport Operations team, you will play a part in every passenger’s journey.

You will be:

  • responding to a variety of emergencies and incidents including fire, medical and marine in the airport environment
  • operating Airport Fire Service equipment including fire trucks and a marine rescue fleet.
  • utilising the onsite gym to maintain physical fitness.
  • working towards qualifications on the job including: rank progression, first aid, New Zealand Class 4 & 5 Driver’s Licence, Marine VHF Radio Operator, Boatmaster, Radar Operator, GPS Operator

About you

You have:

  • practical firefighting experience is a bonus but not required.
  • a can do, self-motivated, team player attitude.
  • a passion for fitness 
  • great communication skills
  • the ability to remain calm and logical under pressure.
  • a full clean NZ Driver’s Licence

There will be a recruitment day on Monday 28th April where you will meet the team and be asked to complete the required fitness test. The fitness test is to be completed prior to the recruitment day if possible. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted directly to organise a time. Upon completion of the fitness test, we will facilitate some teamwork exercises and then interviews. Please note, passing the fitness test is a pre-requisite of continuing onto the Recruitment day.

As part of our standard pre-employment requirements, you must be able to obtain security clearance from Aviation Security Services, complete a Ministry of Justice background check, pass a medical assessment and drug/alcohol test, eyesight and hearing checks and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
